Language Variety in the South: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives (LAVIS III) was held at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa April 15-17, 2004.

BCS-0317553), the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama, the College of Arts and Sciences Anonymous Lecture Fund, SECOL (Southeastern Conference on Linguistics), the Deep South Regional Humanities Center at Tulane University, the South Atlantic Regional Humanities Center at the University of Virginia, the Central Regional Humanities Center at Ohio University, the American Dialect Society, and the Bankhead History Endowment have all made financial commitments to help underwrite the costs of LAVIS III.
